It all begins with you.
My clients can choose a scene or landscape that serves as the most prominent element at first glance — but within the image lies a deeper story. My intention in veiling the story is to reflect my belief that there is so much beyond what is initially presented when you take the time to observe and stay open to discovering more.
When I’ve used this method to paint for myself, I’ve always started with a theme in mind (for example: romantic, nautical, medieval), then taken memories, hopes, and dreams and artfully blended them into the landscape. I also draw inspiration from movies, music, and books, cherry-picking elements from those stories and characters to support the personal narrative I’m telling.
This style of artwork is incredibly personal — even vulnerable at times — but there’s a protective layer of beauty and entertainment in the vibrant colours and visual hide-and-seek. It offers the viewer as much of yourself as you’re willing to share, while still remaining a captivating piece of art to display and enjoy.
